Mental Health

Check On Your Loved Ones

“Always check in.”

Now more than ever, we need to be monitoring our mental health.

We all have our good and bad days so I’m encouraging you to look into your mental health and allow yourself to feel all your emotions while making sure you’re aware of your feelings and know that it’s okay to not be okay all the time.

Going for a walk or a run, playing your favorite sport or FaceTiming your family and friends are all good options to keep yourself sane during this pandemic.

The toughest thing I had to go through this year was my family’s diagnosis of the Coronavirus but I’m happy to share that they have been retested by their primary care doctors and are negative. It was a close call but I’m thankful they’re alive.

We are living in a very strange time right now. Millions have lost their jobs, struggling to survive, sick in the hospital, hundreds of thousands have died, communities are being destroyed and we are witnessing lives being taken away by officials who are supposed to be out there protecting us.

George Floyd did not deserve to die and it’s such a tragic story that was caught on video. This man was murdered and I am disgusted by the policeman’s actions. This type of overuse of power and racism has been going on for many years and needs to stop. These types of hate crimes have been going on for decades and it’s only more recent that we are discussing them because of the video footage that are surfacing online.

I signed the petition to show my support for George Floyd and I encourage you do to do same. Please continue to #JusticeForGeorgeFloyd to keep his memory alive and stand up for what’s right.

This week we are seeing people around the country lash out, riot and protest. While I don’t agree with them destroying property, disturbing the innocent individuals living in these communities, stealing and starting fires, I do think it’s important that people use their voices to speak up for what’s right but in my opinion, this is not the way to go about everything. There are other ways we as humans can be effective and get our points across. I know some people will disagree with my opinion but at this point in my life, I choose to voice how I feel no matter what.

While all of these recent events during the pandemic are very alarming and saddening, what I firmly believe we should be doing at the end of the day is checking in with ourselves and those around us.

There are people who feel alone, are sad, need a friend or family member to hear them out, so this weekend, I encourage you to pick up the phone, text or call someone and check in on them. One message or phone call could save a life. The suicide rate has been going up and you never know how a conversation could change someone’s life.

I try to do my best to reach out to my loved ones as much as I can to show them that I care so while we’re in the darkest of times, this would be a good opportunity to take action.

Here are some mental health tips to get you through the pandemic.

On my YouTube show, “Your Time With Thomas,” I’ve covered tons of episodes that have touched on mental health conditions which I am passionate about and that the overall interactive lifestyle brand has made a point to be an advocate and source of relief for viewers worldwide.

Here’s a recent mental health episode from the show.

Life is short and this platform is a place to help. Please do your best to stay positive, follow social distancing guidelines, practice mental health exercises and remember to always check in.
